  • Five treatment areas and mechanical and electrical support spaces
  • Concrete walls 8′ to 15′ thick to support radiation equipment and provide shielding
  • Patient and family lounges, medical offices, research facilities
Construction Materials:
  • Approximately 27,000 cubic yards of concrete
  • 1,700 tons of rebar
Construction Techniques:
  • Use of proof-of-concept wireless concrete temperature sensor system to establish temperate-to-cure correlations on proposed mix designs months before the start of the project.
  • 3D Construction with Tekla Structures 18 as well as on-site BIM trailer for 3D collaboration

  • Robotic layout utilizing Tekla Structures and Trimble LM-80 Nomad / Trimble RTS Series Robotic Total Stations.
  • Coordination of concrete pours into “3D Pour Checklists” showing planned pour elements for coordination with General Contractor and MEP subcontractors
  • Precision cast-in-place steel plates with bolts to accept the cyclotron had to be cast in place with less than 1/32 inch tolerance
  • Removable precast roof sections designed to be set in place following the installation of equipment vertically through roof opening with a crane
  • Sloping concrete to accommodate sloped steel roof sections and rooftop drains
  • Safety tie-offs embedded in concrete for safety harnesses during construction as well as for future maintenance
Notable Accomplishments:
  • Use of Tekla Structures for BIM to coordinate concrete elements and rebar with MEP contractors for clash detection and coordination.
  • The bulk of the 27,000 cubic yards of concrete was placed and finished in 10 months with as much as 1,000 yards per week.
